While Africa is considered to be the poorest continent in the world, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, and home to the world’s poorest countries, there’s a region that is more poverty-stricken than any other: Busoga region.
According to the latest 2019/2020 report released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) at Statistics House on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Busoga sub-region was once again ranked as the poorest among the poor in Uganda.
Being regarded as the poorest of the poor in a poverty-stricken area in sub-Saharan Africa is truly humbling. It violates human rights and is a form of violence against human dignity. It is demeaning and a powerful source of guilt.
The Busoga region is located in Eastern Uganda – in the deeper ends of Sub-Saharan Africa.
